The Reality Organisation, a pro-All Progressives Congress (APC) group, has called for the dissolution of the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) in Abia State over its handling of an ultimatum issued to former Abia State Governor and Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, and the member representing Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chris Nkwonta.

The group described the decision by the state leadership to withdraw the ultimatum as a “face-saving measure” and urged the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to dissolve the Chijioke Chukwu-led SWC.

Recall that APC stakeholders in Abia, at a meeting on Sunday, resolved to withdraw the ultimatum issued to Kalu and Nkwonta over comments allegedly considered supportive of Governor Alex Otti ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

However, in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Dimgba Okereke, the Reality Organisation faulted the process, arguing that the withdrawal of the ultimatum did not amount to genuine reconciliation.

“What transpired at the so-called stakeholders’ meeting was neither reconciliation nor leadership,” the group said.

It accused the state working committee of creating unnecessary tension within the party by publicly confronting its leaders, issuing ultimatums and subsequently reversing its position without addressing the issues that triggered the controversy.

The organisation also insisted that Kalu had not committed any anti-party offence.

According to the group, Kalu was merely responding to questions during a television interview when he assessed Governor Otti’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.

It added that the senator had also denied claims of an alliance between the APC and the governor.

“A prediction is not an endorsement. No amount of political sophistry can transform one into the other,” the group said.

The Reality Organisation further argued that the reversal of the ultimatum exposed what it described as the state chairman’s lack of political maturity, neutrality and leadership capacity to unite the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

“A state chairman cannot administer a political party on impulse, selective outrage and narrow political calculations. Leadership demands fairness, consultation, maturity, sound judgement and the capacity to accommodate the diverse tendencies within a large political family,” it said.

The group accused the APC leadership in the state of generating avoidable controversy and internal tension over what it described as an unfounded allegation.

“What Chijioke Chukwu succeeded in doing was generating unnecessary political controversy around an allegation that had no foundation. He created the spectacle, fuelled the controversy and subjected the party to avoidable internal tension,” the organisation said.

Consequently, the group called on the APC National Working Committee to urgently intervene in the affairs of the party in Abia and dissolve the existing State Working Committee.

“We therefore call on the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress to urgently intervene in Abia State and dissolve the present State Working Committee,” the group said.

It argued that the Chijioke Chukwu-led SWC had failed to demonstrate the impartiality, maturity and unifying leadership required to reconcile competing interests within the party and position the APC for the 2027 elections.

The organisation maintained that a credible and inclusive leadership structure was necessary to prevent further internal disputes and strengthen the party ahead of the forthcoming electoral contest.
