HON. IBE OKWARA OSONWA FLAGS OFF PHASE 5 OF "LIGHT UP AROCHUKWU/OHAFIA"

The Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, has flagged off the distribution of solar streetlights for Phase 5 of his "Light Up Arochukwu/Ohafia" initiative. The programme is designed to improve security, extend trading hours into the evening and strengthen community life across the constituency.

This phase covers communities, villages and major roads in every clan:

Abam: Amaeke Abam, Ohaeke Abam, Ozu Abam

Ututu: Amasa, Abuma Road, Ahamblem to Ohomji Road, St. Paul Junction to Mission Road

Ihechiowa: Ekelu Umuye, Uburu Ihechiowa, Umuzongbo Ihechiowa

Abiriba: Ugwueji Agboji Abiriba, Umeso Ndi Enachiokun Axis, Afiankwo/Ojuda Street, Amaogudu

Nkporo: Ndi Nko, Obuofia, Okwoko, Amurie

Arochukwu: Ugwuakuma Village, Amuvi Village Market/NDDC Water Project, Utughu New Site Road (Aro Ward II)

Ohafia: Opele Road/Ifemba Road, Isugwu Ohafia, Amangwu Ohafia

Installation begins immediately across all the locations listed.

Part of a bigger fight for power

The streetlights are one part of a sustained effort on electricity that Hon. Osonwa has led since he took office.

When communities across Ohafia, Abiriba and Nkporo went years without power, he took the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) before the House Committee on Public Petitions and kept the pressure on until repairs were committed. He insisted that transformer meters be installed across Ohafia to put an end to estimated billing while residents wait for prepaid meters. He has supplied transformers to communities and replaced vandalised cables and equipment. And through his close working relationship with the Abia State Government, electricity to the constituency is being restored, reconnecting communities in Ohafia LGA and Arochukwu LGA to the national grid.

Earlier phases of Light Up Arochukwu/Ohafia brought solar streetlights to markets, motor parks and communities across both local government areas. Phase 5 carries that light further, into more villages and onto more roads.
