Abia Government Labels NDC Governorship Candidate a Content Creator Over 2027 Allegation

The Abia State Government has described the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Etugo Ogah, as a content creator following his allegation that the state government is supporting Atiku Abubakar and Chibuike Amaechi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 presidential election.

Ogah had reportedly alleged during a recent meeting with members of his party that the administration of Governor Alex Otti was backing neither President Bola Tinubu nor Peter Obi, but Atiku Abubakar and Amaechi.

“The present government of Abia, they are not supporting Tinubu or Peter Obi, they are supporting Atiku and Amaechi and I want to reveal it to you people,” the NDC governorship candidate said.

However, reacting to the allegation, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to Governor Otti on Media and Publicity, accused Ogah and other political contestants of attempting to gain public attention through what he described as unfounded statements against the governor.

Ekeoma condemned the allegation, arguing that Ogah had missed an opportunity to present his vision and policy proposals to party members and had instead focused on making claims about the state government's alleged political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to the governor's aide, Ogah's comments reflected a lack of substantive plans for the people of Abia State.

“A few days ago, Mr. Ogah met with his party members and had a golden opportunity to tell them his vision and plans for the people.

“Unfortunately and because he has none, he spent the entire time claiming that the Government of Abia State was neither supporting Peter Obi nor President Bola Tinubu, but Atiku Abubakar,” Ekeoma said.

He further faulted the NDC candidate for alleging that the state government was supporting specific presidential aspirants, describing the claim as inconsistent with democratic principles.

“That a governorship candidate would allege that an entire state government is supporting a particular presidential candidate is a grand manifestation of ignorance of tenable democratic ethos,” Ekeoma stated.

The exchange comes as political actors begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the question of presidential and governorship alignments expected to feature prominently in political discourse across the country.

Ogah's allegation and the state government's response highlight the emerging political disagreements in Abia as parties and aspirants prepare for the next electoral cycle.
