GOV. OTTI'S COMPASSION: ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT HANDS OVER TWO-BEDROOM BUNGALOW TO WIDOW IN AMAEKPU OHAFIA

The Abia State Government has officially handed over a brand-new two-bedroom bungalow to Mrs. Grace Kalu, a widow from Amaekpu in the Ohafia Local Government Area. This initiative is part of the State Government’s efforts to enhance the welfare and living conditions of those in vulnerable situations.

The bungalow was built through the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, with support from Hon. Chief Kalu Mba Nwoke (Etiokwe), who represents the Ohafia South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.

During the official commissioning and handover ceremony held at Ndi Nnachi Compound in Amaekpu Ohafia on Friday, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, issued a stern warning to relatives and unauthorized individuals against any attempts to take over or interfere with the property designated for Mrs. Kalu.

“Anyone thinking about taking over this building or meddling with the beneficiary should back off. The government will not hesitate to take action against such individuals,” the Deputy Governor cautioned.

Engr. Emetu emphasised that this home is meant solely for Mrs. Grace Kalu and her children, and it should remain their sanctuary. He also praised the residents of Amoba Section, Amaekpu Ohafia, for showing up in large numbers despite the rain to celebrate this occasion, calling their attendance a testament to their support for Governor Alex Chioma Otti’s administration.

“Your presence here, even in the rain, shows your love for Governor Alex Otti and your appreciation for his good work. I encourage you to keep supporting and praying for him,” Engr. Emetu remarked. He urged the community to continue backing the Otti-led administration, assuring them that the government is committed to rolling out programmes and policies that will uplift the lives of the people.

Engr. Emetu took the opportunity to encourage eligible citizens to get ready to pick up their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as soon as they are available. He emphasised the importance of exercising their civic duties to help maintain the positive path of good governance in Abia State. He also urged everyone to keep supporting the Labour Party, pointing out that its logo represents a family.

Earlier, Hon. Chief Kalu Mba Nwoke, who represents the Ohafia South State Constituency, shared that he had reached out to Governor Otti for support for a widow through the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection. He expressed his gratitude to Governor Otti for kindly approving the request and ensuring that funds were released quickly for the construction of a bungalow.

Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke made it clear that this property was specifically built for Mrs. Grace Kalu and her children, and it should not be taken over by any relatives or outsiders.

Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Ngozi Felix Blessing, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Elder Mrs. Uchechukwu Kalu, highlighted that the Ministry is dedicated to supporting vulnerable and less-privileged members of society. She noted that this intervention is part of their core mission.

She praised Governor Otti for his compassion and commitment to safeguarding the welfare of those in need. The Permanent Secretary also encouraged everyone to make good use of their Permanent Voter Cards to help sustain good governance in the State.

In his comments, the Mayor of Ohafia Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, expressed his gratitude to Governor Otti for his ongoing support for the community, especially his readiness to provide resources to tackle urgent needs. He urged the people to keep supporting the administration and the Labour Party.

The Reagent Ezieogo of Amaekpu Community, Ezieogo Engr. Chief Awa Nwankwo, took a moment to express his heartfelt gratitude to the Abia State Government and the lawmaker for providing a safe and comfortable home for the widow. He reassured everyone that the Amaekpu Community stands firmly behind Governor Alex Otti and his administration.

Speaking on behalf of herself and her children, Mrs. Grace Kalu, the grateful beneficiary, shared her deep appreciation to God and the Abia State Government for their timely support. She extended her thanks to Governor Alex Chioma Otti, Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, and Hon. Chief Kalu Mba Nwoke for helping to turn her tears of homelessness into joy by giving her family a secure and decent place to live.

With a hopeful heart, she prayed for God's blessings on the Governor and all the leaders who played a role in making this project a reality, expressing her confidence in their ongoing success.

The ceremony was witnessed by the former Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Hon. Engr. John Eke; the Ohafia LGA Councillors led by the Leader, Rt. Hon. Anyim A. Anyim; Labour Party faithful, Clergy, Community leaders, and people with good conscience.
