Ex-Abia Speaker, Orji declares for House of Reps seat to challenge LP’s Aguocha

A new dimension has emerged in the 2027 political landscape in Abia State as the immediate past Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

The seat is currently occupied by Hon. Obinna Aguocha of the Labour Party, who has also indicated interest in seeking re-election for a second term.

Orji, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a key figure in the City Boy Movement, made his declaration on Friday while addressing supporters in Umuahia. He said his decision was driven by a desire to provide effective and quality representation for the constituents of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.

“I therefore offer myself once again, not just as an aspirant, but as a voice committed to development and the advancement of our people through quality representation at the National Assembly,” Orji stated.

Chinedu Orji, who hails from the Ibeku clan in Umuahia North Local Government Area, is expected to face incumbent lawmaker Obi Aguocha, from the Ohuhu clan of the same local government area, in what is shaping up to be a keenly watched political contest.

While Orji is banking on his established grassroots political structure, Aguocha is expected to rely on the continued influence and popularity of the Labour Party in Abia State as both men prepare for what analysts describe as a potentially heated electoral battle ahead of 2027.
