Abia Cancels August 2026 Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise

The Abia State Government has cancelled the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled to take place across the state on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The cancellation was announced in a statement authorised by the Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Asonye Ogbonna.

With the cancellation, residents, traders and business owners across the state are not required to participate in the officially scheduled monthly sanitation exercise on the date.

The government, however, urged residents to continue maintaining clean and healthy surroundings despite the cancellation.

It stressed that environmental sanitation should be treated as a daily responsibility and not limited to the designated monthly exercise.

Residents were advised to ensure proper disposal of household and commercial waste, clear blocked drainage channels and keep their homes, business premises, streets and communities clean.

The government also warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, noting that the practice could contribute to blocked drainage systems, environmental pollution and unhealthy living conditions.

According to the government, achieving a cleaner and healthier Abia requires the collective efforts of residents, businesses, community leaders and other stakeholders.

It therefore urged Ndi Abia to sustain good environmental hygiene practices and proper waste management throughout their communities, notwithstanding the cancellation of the August sanitation exercise.

The state government appreciated residents for their continued cooperation and support, assuring that the administration remained committed to promoting a cleaner, healthier and environmentally sustainable Abia State.
