Nollywood actress and politician, Doris Ogala, has declared her intention to contest the 2027 Abia State governorship election on the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC), saying she is seeking to “rescue” residents from hardship and what she described as poor governance.

Ogala made her position known during an interview with media personality Nedu Wazobia, where she said Abia required urgent intervention to address challenges affecting residents and businesses across the state.

The actress identified unstable electricity supply and deteriorating infrastructure among the major problems confronting the state, arguing that the lack of reliable power had continued to affect businesses and the daily lives of residents.

“My people are really suffering. Abia needs urgent attention,” Ogala said.

She specifically called for improved electricity supply, stressing that the absence of 24-hour power was one of the major obstacles to economic activity and development in the state.

Ogala, who is seeking the governorship ticket of the AAC, also referred to her previous experience in government. She disclosed that she served as Special Adviser on Creative Arts, Culture and Tourism during the immediate past administration in the state.

Explaining her motivation for entering politics, the actress said her ambition was driven by a desire to improve the lives of residents rather than merely occupy a political position.

“My interest in politics is not about occupying a political office but about making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people,” she said.

The governorship hopeful also criticised the administration of Governor Alex Otti, questioning the attribution of some projects to the current government.

According to Ogala, some of the projects being credited to the present administration were initiated under the previous administration.

She said her campaign would focus on addressing electricity shortages, improving infrastructure and prioritising the welfare of residents.

Ogala expressed confidence in her ability to win the 2027 governorship election, promising to pursue policies aimed at improving the quality of life of Abians.

“I want to rescue Abia. My people are really suffering,” she reiterated.
