Four Killed, Eight Injured in Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Crash
The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of four persons in a lone crash that occurred in front of Christopher University along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The accident, which happened in the early hours of Sunday, also left eight other passengers injured with varying degrees of severity.
The FRSC Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta.
Odunsi said the crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. and involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AGL 789 YL. He added that 13 persons were involved in the incident, comprising 11 adult males and two adult females.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was caused by a burst tyre and speeding, which led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
“The accident was caused by a burst tyre and speed violation, which made the driver lose control of the vehicle,” he said.
He further disclosed that the injured victims were evacuated to Famobis Hospital for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the Idera morgue.
The FRSC also reiterated its warning to motorists to avoid speeding and ensure proper vehicle maintenance in order to prevent avoidable road crashes.
