Obidient Movement Warns Against Threats to Peter Obi
The Obidient Movement in Nigeria’s North Central zone has issued a stern warning to individuals allegedly attacking or threatening the life of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In a statement released on Wednesday, National Coordinator Yunusa Tanko titled “Warning to those attacking or threatening Peter Obi,” the group insisted that attempts to intimidate the former Anambra governor would fail, declaring that Obi would outlive those behind the threats.
The movement said it had carefully reviewed recent developments surrounding an incident in Edo State, conducting internal checks to gather information on the people involved and the motives behind the alleged threats. The delay in issuing a public response, the group explained, was deliberate, allowing time to fully understand the situation before addressing Nigerians.
The statement cautioned those allegedly behind the threats to reconsider their actions, warning that continued hostility could provoke unnecessary tension across the country. It read in part:
"We have taken our time to investigate what happened in Edo State, the actors involved, their subsequent threats, and possible next moves. Armed with this knowledge, we wish to sound this note of warning to those attempting to provoke the peace-loving millions of Obidient Movement members worldwide by threatening our principal, H.E. Mr. Peter Gregory Obi.
Be it known that just as former U.S. President Donald Trump survived attacks during his campaigns and went on to win the presidency, so shall Peter Obi overcome these threats and advance his mission to rescue Nigeria from the current state of disorder. That purpose, as called by God, must be fulfilled."
The Obidient Movement also urged Nigerians to maintain peace and avoid actions capable of escalating political tensions. The group emphasized that Obi remains committed to democratic engagement and peaceful participation in the political process.
