Tinubu Says Nigeria Rescued from Bankruptcy, Economy Showing Signs of Recovery
Abuja — President Bola Tinubu on Monday said his administration has steered Nigeria away from the brink of bankruptcy, assuring citizens that the country’s economy is gradually improving.
The President made the remarks while hosting religious and traditional leaders at an interfaith breaking of fast held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu noted that his government inherited a difficult economic situation upon taking office but has implemented decisive measures to stabilise public finances and prevent a financial collapse.
“We have saved Nigeria from bankruptcy. It was very daunting and challenging when we took over. But today I can say with pride and joy that we have survived,” he said.
He added that the economy is beginning to show signs of recovery, with pensioners gradually receiving relief.
“I can report that the economy has turned the corner. It is getting better. Pensioners are gradually getting relief,” Tinubu stated.
The President also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation, pledging to remain committed to his duties.
“I am just grateful, one person among millions, that I have been given the opportunity to serve. All I can do is promise that I will continue to be faithful in discharging my duty,” he said.
Tinubu highlighted that state governments are now in stronger financial positions and are no longer struggling to borrow funds from banks to pay workers’ salaries.
He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, assuring them that his administration is focused on strengthening the economy and promoting prosperity. The President also reiterated his commitment to increasing investments in key sectors such as agriculture and education to support sustainable growth.
During the event, Tinubu acknowledged the vital roles played by religious and traditional leaders in fostering peace, stability, and moral guidance within their communities.
