Turaki-Led PDP Faction Inaugurates Abia Caretaker Committee Amid Legal Tensions

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has officially inaugurated a Caretaker Committee to oversee party affairs in Abia State.

At the inauguration, PDP Southeast Vice Chairman Ali Odefa commended the newly appointed chairman, Mr. Ikpegbu Emeka-Yello, describing him as experienced, fearless, and capable of navigating what he admitted would be a challenging assignment. Odefa urged the committee to “keep the flag flying” despite internal and external forces allegedly seeking to destabilize the party.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow characterized his appointment as “a call to service, sacrifice, and selfless leadership.” He acknowledged that the PDP in Abia has endured a significant leadership crisis in recent years, which weakened its structures and morale, but stressed that reconciliation would be the central mission of the caretaker committee.

The inauguration, however, is not without controversy. The faction of the PDP in Abia backed by Nyesom Wike has described the caretaker committee as illegal, highlighting ongoing internal divisions within the party.

The newly inaugurated committee is expected to steer the PDP in Abia, strengthen party structures, and prepare for future political engagements amidst the ongoing legal and factional disputes.
