A young man, Edward Okorie, has been arrested by the police for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Sophy Chika, to death during a domestic altercation in their apartment in Ohafia.

The incident reportedly occurred in the apartment the couple shared in the town. The deceased, a nurse from Abam in Arochukwu LGA, was said to have been cohabiting with Okorie, an indigene of Ohafia LGA.

Sources disclosed that the altercation between the couple escalated, leading to the death of the nurse. However, the exact cause of the dispute had yet to be officially established at the time of filing this report.

Confirming the incident, the Abia State Police Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Maureen Chinaka, said she had been briefed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ohafia.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation.

According to DSP Chinaka, the outcome of the investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a related development, the State Criminal Investigation Department in Umuahia has also commenced investigation into a separate case involving a woman in Umuahia who allegedly stabbed her husband, Mr. Chidiebere James, to death with a pair of scissors over messages reportedly found on his phone.
