Several Soldiers Killed as JTF Repels Boko Haram/ISWAP Attacks in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP militants on multiple military locations in Borno State, the Nigerian Army has confirmed. Several soldiers, including a senior officer, were killed during the clashes.
The attacks targeted military positions in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok between 10:30 p.m. Thursday and 3:00 a.m. Friday. According to the army, the insurgents attempted to overrun the bases but were met with fierce resistance.
“The terrorists launched desperate attempts to overrun the military locations but were met with stiff resistance from alert troops who held their ground despite the intensity of the assaults,” the statement read.
Troops responded with coordinated flanking maneuvers, supported by reinforcement teams from Sectors 1 and 2. In several instances where the defensive perimeter was temporarily breached, soldiers swiftly counter-attacked and regained control. Several insurgent leaders, including key amirs, were reportedly killed, and many fighters were eliminated during the counter-offensive.
The army added that although some structures were damaged, all military bases remained firmly under government control. In coordination with the air component, precision airstrikes were conducted against fleeing militants, neutralizing additional insurgents and degrading their fighting capability.
Ground troops are continuing exploitation operations in the affected areas, recovering weapons, combat equipment, and insurgents’ corpses.
“Their sacrifice reflects the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to defending the nation and protecting innocent citizens,” the statement said, paying tribute to the fallen soldiers.
