PoliticsI Will Oppose Otti’s Re-Election – Kalu

Kalu Vows to Oppose Otti’s Re-Election Bid in 2027

Former Abia State governor and senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that he will oppose the re-election bid of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, in the 2027 governorship election.

Kalu made the declaration during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, where he said his position is guided strictly by party loyalty.

According to the lawmaker, his political allegiance to the All Progressives Congress takes precedence over personal relationships, noting that the party would present its own candidate in the next governorship race.

He, however, stressed that his political stance would not affect his personal relationship with the governor, who belongs to the Labour Party.

Kalu said political differences should not destroy longstanding friendships, adding that both men are expected to work for the success of their respective parties.

“I believe everyone should support and vote for their party. I am APC and will work for APC, while he should work for Labour Party. We should not lose our friendship,” he said.

The senator also emphasised the need to sustain peace and political stability in Abia State, even as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

While acknowledging that the governor should be given space to govern, Kalu maintained that he would stand with his party’s interest when the contest begins.

“I will oppose it because my party will be fielding a candidate. That is it. It is about the interest of the party,” he stated.
