Obidient Movement Urges Tinubu to Call APC to Order After Peter Obi Attack

By Uduma

A member of the Obidient Movement, Justin Ijeh, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rein in the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the recent assassination attempt on former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi and other members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin, Edo State.

Ijeh made the appeal on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television, stressing that the incident represents a dangerous escalation of political violence in the country.

DAILY POST had reported that Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, along with notable ADC members, came under attack on Tuesday. While no one was physically harmed, the assailants reportedly destroyed property at a private event.

“The recent premeditated attack in Benin, following similar incidents, represents an unacceptable escalation,” Ijeh said. “This mirrors an earlier attack in Lagos and signals a troubling pattern of intimidation. This progression from rhetoric to physical violence undermines democracy and Nigerians’ right to free association.”

Ijeh also referenced past threats by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo concerning Obi’s security, urging the president to address the matter as a constitutional responsibility.

“We call for a thorough investigation, preferably by an independent panel, given the local police’s limitations. Furthermore, we urge President Tinubu to personally condemn this violence and call APC members to order to prevent further political thuggery,” he added.

The Obidient Movement’s appeal comes amid growing concerns over rising political violence in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, with many Nigerians calling for stronger measures to protect democratic processes and ensure the safety of political actors.
