Police Arrest Seven Over Illegal Firearms Possession in Abia

Suspects to be charged after investigation as anti-cultism unit recovers weapons and related items
The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of seven suspects for unlawful possession of firearms following coordinated operations by its Anti-Cultism Unit.
Police authorities said the arrests were made during separate intelligence-led operations conducted on January 31 and February 11, 2026. Items recovered during the raids include five locally made pistols, seven cartridges, one toy pistol, two yellow confraternity berets, and a Maxmech furniture screw machine.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka. According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended based on actionable intelligence gathered by operatives.
Those arrested were identified as Chima George, Chukwu Emeka Goodluck, Julius Emenike, Chika James, Richard Wisdom, Steven Chinsonso, and Chinsonso Tom.
The command noted that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the inquiry.
