UK, Germany Reaffirm Support for Nigeria’s Fight Against Terrorism
Maiduguri — Defence Attachés from the United Kingdom and Germany have reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to supporting Nigeria’s efforts against terrorism and insurgency.
Tom Harper (UK) and Boris Bovecamp (Germany) gave the assurance during a visit to the headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
Harper highlighted the longstanding partnership between the UK and Nigeria, built on mutual respect and shared values of democracy, rule of law, and human rights. He commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their ongoing efforts in combating insurgency in the north-east and pledged continued training support through the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT).
Bovecamp said Germany is exploring future collaborations, particularly in capacity building and regional cooperation to enhance operational effectiveness against terrorism.
Maj-Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, lauded the contributions of both countries, noting that joint training initiatives have strengthened troops’ skills and readiness. He also identified technical expertise, equipment, and logistics as key areas for further cooperation.
