Labour Party Denies Reports of Alex Otti’s Defection to APC
The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has dismissed claims that Governor Alex Otti is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the reports as “false, misleading, and baseless.”
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mazi Chidiebere Okoro, the LP refuted speculations that the APC allegedly postponed its congress in Abia State due to an arrangement involving Otti’s purported defection. The party emphasized that no such plan exists and that Governor Otti remains a committed member of the Labour Party.
Okoro stated that since assuming office, Governor Otti has focused on governance, without engaging in any discussions about political realignment. “Governor Otti remains steadfast in his commitment to delivering tangible results and ensuring that government policies and initiatives proceed without disruption or needless speculation,” the statement read.
The Labour Party highlighted Otti’s dedication to good governance, transparency, accountability, and inclusive development. According to the party, the administration has recorded measurable progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment initiatives. Ongoing projects aimed at improving citizens’ welfare, creating opportunities for youth and women, and strengthening the state’s economy are reportedly already yielding positive results.
Describing the reports as unfortunate, the party warned that spreading unverified information at a time when the government is consolidating developmental gains is distracting and counterproductive. It urged media practitioners, political stakeholders, and the public to rely on credible and official sources before sharing information.
