NDLEA, NAFDAC Reinforce Partnership to Tackle Illicit Drugs in Kano

Kano – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State command, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in the fight against illicit drugs.

The declaration was made by the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command Commander, Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, during a familiarisation visit to NAFDAC State Coordinator, Kasim Ibrahim, in Kano.

According to NDLEA’s Public Relations Officer, ASN Sadiq Muhhamads-Maigarari, the visit highlighted the shared resolve of both agencies to protect Kano residents from the dangers posed by illicit drugs and substandard medicines.

The meeting also spotlighted key initiatives being championed by NDLEA Chairman, Retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, including the agency’s Drug Integrity Testing Programme and the Alternative Development Initiative (ADI). The ADI is aimed at reducing substance abuse through sustainable livelihood opportunities while promoting preventive strategies against drug dependence.

Muhhamads-Maigarari said the NDLEA command is ready to implement these initiatives in close coordination with NAFDAC, in line with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed to enhance operational synergy between the two agencies.

In his remarks, NAFDAC Kano Coordinator Kasim Ibrahim commended NDLEA for the proactive engagement and reaffirmed his agency’s readiness to support joint operations. He stressed that NAFDAC remains committed to collaborative efforts to curb the production, distribution, and consumption of illicit substances, as well as the circulation of substandard and falsified medicines across the state.

The engagement forms part of ongoing inter-agency efforts to strengthen enforcement, regulatory oversight, community sensitisation, and development programmes to safeguard public health in Kano.
