Lagos APC Postpones State Executive Inauguration Following Death of Assistant Publicity Secretary-Elect
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed the inauguration of its newly elected state executives following the sudden death of the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary-elect, Yesiro Karamo.
Karamo reportedly passed away on Wednesday, just hours after attending the Lagos APC congress held on Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Onikan, where he was elected to the position.
Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, described Karamo’s death as a “painful loss” and expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the party.
“The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress received with profound shock and deep sorrow the news of the sudden demise of our newly elected Assistant Publicity Secretary, Karamo Yesiro,” the statement read. “Having just been entrusted with the responsibility of serving in the State Executive Council, he embodied dedication, loyalty, and an unwavering belief in the ideals of our party. His energy and commitment to progressive politics will be greatly missed.”
Party members and supporters who had gathered at the APC secretariat in Acme, Ogba, on Thursday morning for the scheduled inauguration were informed of the postponement, which was made in honour of the deceased. Party leaders also visited Karamo’s family to offer condolences.
Sources within the party later indicated that the inauguration has been rescheduled for Friday.
The newly elected state executive committee, which will serve a four-year term, is chaired by Cornelius Ojelabi, with Moshood Olanrewaju as Deputy Chairman, Adeola Jokomba as Secretary, and Seye Oladejo as Publicity Secretary. Other officials include Azizat Mariam (Assistant Secretary), Babajide Sunday (Vice Chairman), Shola Eletu (Woman Leader), and Ayodele Adewale (Organising Secretary).
The Tuesday congress was attended by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa, Secretary to the State Government Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, and other political figures including former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, governorship aspirant Olajide Adediran, and former Senator Ganiyu Solomon.
