Labour Party Hails Governor Otti as “Pride” on 61st Birthday

Abuja, February 18, 2026 – The Labour Party has celebrated Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, describing him as its “pride” in a tribute issued on Wednesday to mark his 61st birthday. The party commended Otti for his leadership achievements and his landmark victory in the 2023 elections.

Born on February 18, 1965, Dr. Otti has, in less than three years in office, earned accolades for redefining governance in Abia State. Senator Nenadi Usman, the party’s Interim National Chairman, praised him as a transformative and hands-on leader.

“Your Excellency, as you mark your birthday today, I pray that God continues to endow you with enormous wisdom to pilot the affairs of Abians, where you have redefined leadership; and in the Labour Party, where you continue to bear the torch for us,” Usman said.

She added, “You have shown that with clear vision and determination, governance can indeed be purposeful and transformative. Your approach in Abia has made leadership look simple, even though your predecessors were never as hands-on in the job.”

Highlighting Otti’s influence as Nigeria moves toward another election season, Usman said, “My fervent prayer is that Abians will have cause to renew the mandate they entrusted in your hands, having witnessed your uncommon leadership. You remain the pride of the Labour Party’s outing in the 2023 elections, and I am certain the good people of Abia State are taking note of your purposeful and people-centered governance.”

Concluding her tribute, Usman extended warm wishes on behalf of her family and the party leadership, saying, “We wish you many more happy returns, Your Excellency.”

Before entering politics, Alex Otti was a renowned economist and veteran banker, serving as Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank PLC, where he transformed the institution into one of Nigeria’s top-tier banks.
