Youths and women in Katsina State have pledged to deliver two million votes to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, in the February 25 election.
The commitment was announced on Friday in Katsina by Ahmed Adamu, Special Assistant to Atiku on Youth and Strategy, when he led thousands of party supporters in a procession tagged “Katsina State March for Atiku.”
Adamu said the rally was organised to galvanise additional support for the PDP flag bearer and ensure his victory at the polls. He described the turnout as a clear demonstration of the enthusiasm of young people and women in the state for the former Vice President.
“This is a clear demonstration of support from the young people in the state for the presidential candidate, and we will deliver millions of votes to him,” he said.
He added that Katsina remained politically significant to the PDP candidate, describing the state as Atiku’s “second home” and political base. According to him, the level of mobilisation across the state shows that many Nigerians, particularly the youth, are eager for change.
“This election is the most important for young people. That is why you can see that most of those here are women and youths because it is about their future,” Adamu said.
He expressed confidence that the PDP candidate would secure about 80 per cent of the votes in Katsina State, assuring supporters that the mobilisation drive would translate into millions of votes.
Also speaking, one of the organisers of the march, Ahmed Tijjani-Uwais, said the anticipated support for Atiku extended beyond Katsina to other states in the North-West and North-East regions.
He noted that with over three million registered voters in Katsina and similar figures in states such as Kaduna, the two regions could collectively deliver between seven and eight million votes to the PDP candidate in the 2023 presidential election.
Tijjani-Uwais expressed optimism that the projected votes would materialise at the polls, reaffirming the commitment of party loyalists across the regions to work for Atiku’s success.
