JUST IN: Senator Dickson Set to Dump PDP, Reveal Next Party Today Ahead of 2027

Senator Seriake Dickson to Announce Political Move Ahead of 2027 Elections

Abuja – Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West in the National Assembly, is set to make a “major announcement” regarding his political future, sparking widespread speculation across the country’s political circles.

The former Bayelsa State governor is widely expected to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a platform he has long been associated with, in what could mark a significant realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dickson announced on Wednesday that he would address journalists and the public at a press conference scheduled for 2:00 pm on Thursday, promising to clarify his next political steps and the party through which he intends to pursue his ambitions.

In a brief post on his verified X account, the senator hinted that his statement would focus on broader issues affecting democracy and the welfare of his constituents. He wrote:

“A Major Announcement is Coming!!! Tomorrow, Thursday, 5th March 2026, at 2:00 PM. I will be making an important statement at a Press Conference addressing the future of our people and our democracy. Stay tuned. Be ready. Be part of the moment. #NDC #NigeriaPolitics #2027Elections.”

Although Dickson did not explicitly disclose the nature of the announcement, the hashtags have fueled speculation that he may be aligning with the newly formed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The NDC, recently registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is emerging as a potential opposition platform ahead of the 2027 polls.

Sources familiar with the matter suggest that Dickson may view the new party as a vehicle to strengthen opposition politics in Bayelsa State, especially following Governor Douye Diri’s reported defection from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which altered the state’s political landscape.

Efforts to reach Dickson’s team for comments were unsuccessful. His media aide, Ajiri Daniel, said the senator would personally address all questions during Thursday’s press conference.

Political analysts note that the rise of new parties such as the NDC could significantly reshape contests leading to the 2027 elections, offering alternatives to existing party structures. Dickson, a consistent critic of the APC government, remains a key political figure in Bayelsa, with influence built during his tenure as governor.

Reactions on social media have been mixed, with supporters and critics alike weighing in on his anticipated move. The press conference is expected to provide clarity on the senator’s political direction and its potential impact on national and state politics.
