Governor Umo Eno Visits President Tinubu in Abuja Following Defection to APC

Abuja – Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

During the meeting, Governor Eno briefed the President on the developments and general state of affairs in Akwa Ibom. The visit comes months after he formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ohafia reporters recalls that Governor Eno officially announced his defection on June 6, 2025, at the Government House in Uyo, following three months of extensive consultations with critical stakeholders across the state. At the time, he expressed gratitude to the PDP for its support during his tenure, emphasizing that the decision to leave the party was carefully considered.

“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC,” he said.

Governor Eno explained that his decision to join the APC was motivated by his admiration and respect for President Tinubu and the desire for Akwa Ibom to align with the Federal Government to unlock greater development opportunities. He described the move as strategic rather than a result of political weakness.

“We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness but from a position of strength. We are joining the APC out of a need to align our state with the centre,” he added.

The governor also assured residents of Akwa Ibom that his defection would not affect his commitment to their welfare.

“We’re joining the APC today in the state’s interest, because of our critical admiration and respect for President Tinubu, and to provide the needed support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio,” he stated.
