Abia, Cross River Governors Honour Women on International Women’s Day
Governors of Abia State and Cross River State have joined the world in celebrating women, highlighting their vital contributions to society and development.
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State described women as “special and spectacular,” emphasizing their positive impact on society and humanity. In a statement released on Sunday, 8 March, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Otti said his administration continues to provide a pride of place for women, ensuring that their talents and energies are harnessed for the state’s development.
“Abia women should see this year’s International Women’s Day as an opportunity to renew their vigour and expand their horizon of excellence for the good of all,” Otti said. He further assured that women will remain a critical and integral part of his government, receiving the support they need to succeed.
The governor, on behalf of the First Lady, Lady Priscilla Chidinma Otti, and the people of Abia, felicitated with women in the state, praying that they continue to achieve greater excellence.
Meanwhile, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State hailed the women of his state as “pillars of social harmony and economic growth.” In a post on Facebook, he lauded their resilience, enterprise, and dedication, noting their contributions across farms, markets, schools, and institutions.
Otu stressed that his administration remains committed to expanding opportunities for women in agriculture, entrepreneurship, education, technology, and other emerging sectors. “Empowering women is not only a social responsibility but also a pathway to sustainable prosperity. Together, we will continue to build a stronger and more inclusive Cross River,” he said.
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on 8 March, promotes the achievements of women and strengthens the campaign for gender equality. Governor Otti noted that appointing women to key positions in his administration underscores their importance and the value they add to every endeavour.
