Imo APC Congress: Governor Uzodimma Calls for Unity, Discipline Ahead of Ward Elections
Owerri — Governor Hope Uzodimma has charged All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Imo State to uphold discipline, unity, and a succession plan as the party prepares for its ward and local government congresses scheduled for Friday.
The governor delivered the charge during a meeting with party leaders from the state’s 305 wards and 27 local government areas at the Government House, Owerri. He commended members, leaders, and the State Working Committee for strengthening the party, noting that the APC had made remarkable progress since 2020.
“If you recall where the party was in 2020 and where it is today, the progress is evident. Today, the three senators representing Imo are from the APC. The majority of the House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly members are APC. All the local government chairmen and councillors are APC. This is a great achievement,” the governor said.
Uzodimma emphasized that party unity and discipline are essential, cautioning that not every stakeholder would secure party positions. He urged those affected by leadership changes to remain loyal and committed to the party.
“Our strength lies in unity, sacrifice, and loyalty. Some will emerge, some will not. But everyone must continue to support the party,” he said.
Describing the ward congresses as the foundation of the APC in the state, Uzodimma called for a transparent and peaceful exercise. He confirmed that officials from the national party headquarters in Abuja had been deployed to supervise the process and warned that irregularities would not be tolerated.
“I will monitor the process very closely. Nobody is my friend or relative when it comes to ensuring a credible exercise. What matters is fairness and integrity,” he added.
He also assured members that he would strictly supervise the congress in line with approved party guidelines. “My job is to supervise the process, and I will do everything as I said, in line with the approved guidelines for the congress,” he said.
Governor Uzodimma concluded by urging party members to return to their local governments, remain focused, and ensure that the APC emerged stronger than ever.
“Imo must move forward. Let us conduct our meetings peacefully and ensure that our party remains united and victorious,” he said.
