Abia Lawmaker, Former Ikpeazu Aide, Defects to APC
Mr. Erondu Uchenna-Erondu, former Special Adviser on Special Duties to ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Uchenna-Erondu, who represents Obingwa West constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, was received into the APC by former Deputy Governor Chris Akoma at Nenu in Obingwa Local Government Area. Hundreds of supporters accompanied him during the ceremony.
Speaking on his defection, the lawmaker cited the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a key motivation. “The re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 is non-negotiable. We, in the state, must come together as one family to ensure that we are part of the victory,” he said.
Chairman of the House Committee on Civil Service Matters, Uchenna-Erondu stated that his move to the APC would enable him to attract more development to his constituency and the state. He also pledged to maintain his record of effective representation. “If I could accomplish what I did while in the PDP, I assure our people that with the APC platform, I will do more,” he added. The lawmaker recently organized a N1 billion empowerment program for his constituency.
In his remarks, Chris Akoma described Uchenna-Erondu as a “priceless political asset” and one of the early foundation members of the APC in Abia, having served as its first administrative secretary. He thanked the lawmaker for responding to the party’s call and expressed confidence that his defection would strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
