Federal Secretariat Fire Contained: Head of Service Orders Investigation

The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has confirmed a fire incident at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase II, Abuja, on Monday.

The blaze, which erupted in the early hours, affected the 4th floor of Block C, housing the National Board for Technology Incubation.

In a statement, Mrs. Eno Olotu, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office, said the building’s emergency protocols were immediately activated upon detection of the fire. Personnel from the Federal Fire Service and other emergency response agencies swiftly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

“Their professional and timely intervention effectively contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other areas of the building,” the statement noted.

The statement confirmed that there were no casualties, with all staff on the affected floor safely evacuated. “The safety and well-being of all civil servants and visitors is our top priority,” it emphasized.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, conducted an on-site assessment and commended the Federal Fire Service and other responders for their prompt action. She also assured that a comprehensive investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the fire, prevent future incidents, and assess the structural integrity of the building.

“After the fire was contained, necessary precautionary measures have been put in place to secure the affected area. A thorough assessment is currently underway to determine the extent of the damage to the property,” the statement added.
