Otti Approves 100 Hectares for Nigerian Air Force Training Base at Abia Airport
Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has approved the allocation of 100 hectares of land within the Abia Airport project site for the establishment of a training base by the Nigerian Air Force.
The approval followed a request by the Air Force for an expansion of the 50 hectares earlier earmarked for the project at the airport site.
Governor Otti granted the request on Tuesday, March 10, while receiving a delegation from the Air Force’s Ground Training Command led by the Commander, Adebayo Gabriel Kehinde, at his office.
Speaking during the meeting, the governor explained that the airport project is being developed through a partnership between the Abia State Government and the Federal Government, with the state responsible for constructing the runway while the Federal Government handles the terminal building.
He expressed optimism that work on the runway would be completed soon, while development of the airport terminal would follow subsequently.
Otti thanked the Air Force for approving the establishment of a base in the state and for proposing the training facility at the airport project site, which is currently under construction.
He noted that the initial request by the Air Force to establish a training centre in Abia aligned with his administration’s own interest in strengthening security infrastructure in the state.
“You can take it for granted that you have at least 100 hectares of land in that place,” the governor assured the delegation.
