Gov. Namadi Advocates Stronger Policies to Guide Youths in the Digital Era

Kaduna — Governor Umar Namadi has called for stronger policies and collective action to support the moral development of young people in today’s digital age. He made the remarks on Saturday during a Ramadan lecture jointly organised by the Nigerian Television Authority, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, and Voice of Nigeria in Kaduna.

Highlighting the growing influence of technology and social media on youth behaviour and societal values, Governor Namadi noted that while digital tools provide vast opportunities for education, innovation, and social engagement, they also expose young people to harmful content and negative influences.

He stressed the importance of promoting digital citizenship education and providing moral guidance to help youths navigate online spaces responsibly. “Many countries have adopted policies to regulate children’s access to social media,” he said, urging stakeholders in Nigeria to develop similar frameworks to protect young users.

The governor called on media practitioners, educators, and parents to collaborate in instilling ethical values and responsible online behaviour among youths. He also highlighted ongoing initiatives by his administration to train young people in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and technology outsourcing. Plans are also underway to implement programmes that foster social orientation, discipline, and positive values among youths.

Commending the organisers for sustaining the annual lecture platform, Governor Namadi described it as a vital forum for addressing moral, ethical, and social issues affecting society over the past two decades.

Similarly, Governor Uba Sani urged Nigerians to use the Ramadan period to promote unity, moral values, and responsible digital technology use. Represented by the Director-General of the Bureau for Interfaith Affairs, Tahir Umar, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting religious education and initiatives that encourage peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding.

Salihu Abdulhamid, Director-General of NTA, expressed appreciation to all participants for contributing to this year’s lecture, highlighting the media’s commitment to delivering valuable, accurate, and timely information that promotes national unity.
