Fubara names new Chief of Staff, SSG after cabinet shake-up

Fubara Names New SSG, Chief of Staff Following Cabinet Shake-Up

By Uduma
Port Harcourt – Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed new top aides to Government House, naming Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Barrister Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff (CoS).

The appointments, effective immediately, were disclosed in a press statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzechi, on Thursday, February 26, 2026. According to the statement, the new officials are scheduled to be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.

Governor Fubara’s decision comes in the wake of a peace deal brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resolve lingering political tensions between the Governor and his predecessor, and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The statement read:

“The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff. Both appointments are with immediate effect. The new appointees will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.”

The appointments follow a major cabinet dissolution on February 12, 2026, when Governor Fubara asked commissioners and special advisers to hand over to permanent secretaries or senior officers in their ministries. The shake-up also led to the removal of Edison Ehie and Dr. Benibo Anabraba from the positions of Chief of Staff and SSG, respectively.

The fate of these two key government offices had been the subject of intense speculation, particularly after President Tinubu halted a planned impeachment of Governor Fubara by the Rivers State House of Assembly and facilitated reconciliation with Wike.

More updates on the swearing-in and new administration priorities are expected to follow.
