Former Vice President Osinbajo hails Otti’s social welfare reforms

Osinbajo Commends Otti’s Social Welfare Reforms in Abia State

Umuahia – Former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has praised Governor Alex Otti for his bold and compassionate social welfare initiatives, particularly the recent assent to the Senior Citizens’ Law in Abia State.

The commendation came during Osinbajo’s visit to the governor at his office in Umuahia, which coincided with activities marking Otti’s birthday. The former vice president described the governor’s welfare policies as exemplary and rooted in compassion and social responsibility, emphasizing that the world’s most successful societies are built on strong support systems for vulnerable populations.

Governor Otti clarified that the gathering was not a planned birthday celebration, noting his preference for modesty while serving in office. He thanked God for the “modest but impactful” achievements recorded in his 32 months in office and reaffirmed that governance must remain focused on the welfare and security of the people.

“Governance is about the people — their welfare, their safety, and their peace of mind. If you enter office for any other reason, you miss the essence of leadership,” Otti said. He also recounted decisive interventions early in his administration that restored order in some local government areas previously under the control of non-state actors, ensuring that previously inaccessible communities are now safe for residents.

Earlier, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, on behalf of the State Executive Council, extended birthday wishes to the governor, praying for continued strength and fruitful years ahead. Representatives of leading financial institutions, including Access Bank, First Bank, and UBA, in their goodwill messages, described Otti as a model of credible and ethical leadership, noting that his administration has become a benchmark for excellence.

Osinbajo, Nigeria’s 14th vice president, expressed appreciation for the governor’s hospitality and lauded his performance in office, highlighting his efforts in improving road infrastructure and connectivity across the state.

Reflecting on the demands of leadership, Osinbajo observed, “Sometimes you wonder whether, after all the efforts to get into office, leaders are able to fulfil their promises. But in your case, you have done not just what you promised, but even more. You have made public service worthwhile.” He prayed for renewed strength, wisdom, and divine favour for Governor Otti as he continues the transformation of Abia State.

Governor Otti warmly welcomed Osinbajo, describing him as a brother, friend, and mentor whose visit he deeply appreciated.
