Edo Attack: Peter Obi Should Have Notified Government, Says Commissioner

By Uduma

Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi should have informed the state government before entering Edo State.

Afegbua made the comment on Wednesday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, while reacting to the gunmen attack on Obi and other prominent members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

Ohafia Reporters recalls that the incident, described as an ‘assassination attempt,’ has sparked widespread concern and reactions across Nigeria.

The Commissioner also addressed remarks made last year by Governor Monday Okpebholo, saying they were misinterpreted. “People misinterpreted what Governor Okpebholo meant when he made the statement in July last year, to the extent that anytime Peter Obi wants to come to Edo, he should please inform the state government,” Afegbua said.

He added, “But because Obi is a politically exposed person, we would expect that he would extend the courtesy of informing the government of the day. What happened in Edo should be located within the ambit of the ADC—one factional group of the ADC versus another faction of the ADC.”
