Breaking: Fubara Sacks Commissioners After Meeting With Wike,

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dissolved the Rivers State Executive Council, removing all commissioners, special advisers and political appointees amid ongoing political tensions in the state.

The decision was announced in an official statement issued on Thursday, February 12, by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi. According to the statement, affected officials have been directed to hand over their responsibilities to the most senior officers or permanent secretaries in their respective ministries.

The development follows a recent reconciliation meeting involving Governor Fubara, his predecessor Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Tinubu. Wike currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Governor Fubara and Wike have been embroiled in a prolonged political dispute since shortly after Fubara assumed office, largely centered on control of the political structure in Rivers State. The crisis escalated when the Rivers State House of Assembly, where a majority of lawmakers are aligned with Wike, initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor. The move was later halted following intervention by the presidency.

Local media, including The Nation, reported that the governor’s directive mandates immediate administrative handovers across all ministries.

The cabinet dissolution has triggered mixed reactions from members of the public and political observers. Some commentators describe the move as a strategic reset aimed at stabilizing governance, while others question the legality and political implications of previous appointments made without full legislative clearance.

Observers say the latest action could reshape the political landscape in the state as reconciliation efforts continue among key actors.
