Court of Appeal Adjourns PDP Ibadan Convention Case Indefinitely

Ibadan – The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan on Wednesday indefinitely adjourned the case involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its Ibadan elective convention.

The appellate court urged the parties to resolve the dispute amicably outside the courtroom. Justices on the panel advised the PDP and other stakeholders to explore a peaceful settlement, adding that if no agreement is reached, the parties are free to return to court for further proceedings.

The judges also called on the lawyers representing the parties to provide proper guidance to their clients to facilitate an out-of-court resolution. They cautioned counsel to be mindful of time, particularly given the recently released electoral timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ohafia reporters report that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had recently invalidated the PDP’s Ibadan convention, which produced Kabiru Turaki (SAN) as the party’s National Chairman.

A three-member panel of the appellate court delivered a unanimous judgment on Monday, ruling that the PDP’s appeal lacked merit. The panel resolved all four issues raised against the party and upheld the October 31 ruling by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, which granted the plaintiffs’ reliefs, including restraining INEC from recognising the convention’s outcome.
