Abia Lawmaker Erondu, Thousands of Supporters Join APC

Obingwa-West State Constituency lawmaker, Hon. Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a move expected to reshape Abia State’s political landscape.

Erondu Jnr, who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Public Service Matters, was received into the APC at Nenu, Obingwa Local Government Area, by former Deputy Governor Chris Alozie Akomas, alongside party leaders and supporters.

Explaining his decision, the former Obingwa LGA chairman said the switch would enable him to attract more development to Obingwa, Abia South, and the state at large. He pledged to continue his record of effective representation and urged constituents and Nigerians to support the APC.

“If I could accomplish what I did while in the PDP, I assure our people that, with the APC platform, we will do even more. I urge sustained collaboration to consolidate the gains made so far by President Tinubu,” Erondu said. He also declared his full support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, describing the President’s reform policies as bold and necessary for Nigeria’s long-term growth. “The re-election of President Tinubu in 2027 is not negotiable,” he added.

Dr. Akomas described Erondu as a priceless political asset and an early founding member of the APC in Abia State, having served as the party’s first administrative secretary alongside Chief Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, its pioneer national vice chairman from the state. He expressed confidence that Erondu’s return would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

Erondu’s defection was accompanied by former Obingwa LGA chairman Hon. George Ubani, Hon. Chikezirim Monday Orji, and over 5,000 supporters, a move political observers described as a major boost for the APC in Abia. The defection followed sustained appeals from key APC figures, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Okezie Kalu, former Imo State governorship candidate Uche Nwosu, and federal lawmaker Chris Nkwonta.
