Alex Ikwechegh Resigns from APGA, Sparks Speculation on Next Political Move
Alex Ikwechegh, the lawmaker representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Ikwechegh made the announcement in a handwritten letter addressed to the chairman of his party ward, stating that his resignation takes immediate effect.
“I respectfully submit my resignation from my membership of the party, APGA, effective immediately,” he wrote in the undated letter.
In the letter, Ikwechegh expressed gratitude to the party for the platform and opportunities provided during his tenure as an Abia lawmaker. “I appreciate the opportunity given to me to serve and contribute during my sojourn with the party. I wish the party continued progress and success in its future endeavours,” he added.
The lawmaker did not disclose the reasons for leaving APGA or indicate his next political steps. However, his resignation comes amid heightened political activity in Abia State.
With Governor Alex Otti a prominent member of the Labour Party, and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking to expand its influence in the state, speculation is rife that Ikwechegh could join either party. Political analysts also note that he has long expressed admiration for Governor Otti’s leadership style, suggesting a possible lean towards the Labour Party despite its internal challenges.
The development marks another significant shift in Abia’s political landscape as the state gears up for the next electoral cycle.
