Abia: Gov Otti initiates measures to harmonise data systems for improved governance

Alex Otti Restates Commitment to Data-Driven Governance at Abia Workshop

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a modern, efficient and data-driven governance structure to improve planning and public service delivery.

Otti made the pledge on Thursday in Umuahia while declaring open the Abia Data and Identity for Governance Workshop organised for civil servants and political office holders.

He said the state government was determined to institutionalise credible data management and establish a reliable identity system across all arms of government to support coordinated and evidence-based decision-making.

According to him, governance in the 21st century must be anchored on accurate data and a harmonised identity framework to ensure effective planning and seamless delivery of services.

“Without credible data, planning becomes guesswork, and without a coordinated identity system, service delivery remains fragmented,” the governor said.

He described the theme of the workshop as a transformational blueprint designed to integrate data systems across ministries, departments and agencies, noting that the initiative would eliminate duplication, enhance transparency, improve policy formulation and promote accountability in the public service.

The governor added that a unified data architecture would enable the state to track institutional performance, allocate resources more efficiently, boost internally generated revenue and strengthen social protection programmes.

Otti noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s development philosophy, which emphasises structured governance and measurable outcomes, expressing optimism that the workshop would produce practical, solution-driven recommendations focused on data integration challenges, capacity gaps and digital identification requirements.
