Abia Governor Commends Ohanaeze Leadership, Pledges Continued Support

Umuahia, Abia State – Governor Alex Otti has praised the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by Senator John Azuta-Mbata, describing their tenure as purposeful and impactful.

Governor Otti made the remarks on Tuesday when he received the newly inaugurated leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, headed by National Deputy President-General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi, at his office in Government House, Umuahia.

The governor said the Mbata-led administration had lived up to expectations, noting that his support stemmed from confidence in their capacity to deliver for the Igbo people.

“We are very happy with the progress that has been made so far. Why you got the support is because we know who you are, we know you have the capacity to do the job. And one year after, I am sure that we are not disappointed. Let him know that we understand and we can see the work that Senator Mbata and his team are doing,” Gov. Otti stated.

He assured that all issues raised by the Ohanaeze leadership had been duly noted and that his administration would explore areas where it could provide support. The governor also highlighted his administration’s efforts, including renovating the state secretariat of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, clearing years of arrears, and supporting the near-completion of the new Ohanaeze National Secretariat. He congratulated the leadership on their achievements so far and on the draft constitution awaiting approval.

“Clearly, what you are doing is visible, and I want to encourage you to do even more for our people,” Gov. Otti added.

Earlier, Senator Azuta-Mbata, represented by Prince Nwadinobi, expressed appreciation for the governor’s backing, describing Otti’s administration as transformative. He commended the governor’s policies in education, healthcare, and road infrastructure, noting tangible progress across communities.

The Ohanaeze leadership also outlined upcoming initiatives, including the establishment of a seven-professorial chair committee to advance the preservation of the Igbo language. They called on Southeast governors to create safer, more habitable conditions that would encourage young Igbo entrepreneurs to invest in the region.

The visit was attended by Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE; Chief of Staff Pastor Caleb Ajagba, PhD; Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Prince Uzor Nwachukwu; and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, among others.
