Abia APC Fixes Fresh Dates for Ward, LG Congresses
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has announced new dates for its Ward and Local Government congresses following last week’s suspension of the exercise over internal disagreements.
In a statement issued by the Abia APC caucus, the party disclosed that the rescheduled Ward Congress will hold on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, across the state, while the Local Government Congress is slated for Thursday, February 26, 2026.
The party explained that the earlier suspension was necessary to address internal friction within the state chapter. According to the statement, the intervention has yielded positive results, with unity restored among key stakeholders.
The caucus noted that the decision to postpone the congresses was taken in good faith to ensure a rancour-free and transparent process, adding that the renewed harmony has cleared the way for the exercises to proceed as scheduled this week.
State Congress March 3
The party further confirmed that its State Congress will hold as earlier scheduled on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Party leaders expressed optimism that the forthcoming congresses would consolidate unity and strengthen the party’s structure across wards and local government areas in Abia State.
The development comes amid speculation that Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, may be considering a move to the APC ahead of the 2027 governorship election in pursuit of a second term.
However, the governor’s media aides, Ferdinand Ekeoma and Dodoh Okafor, have dismissed the reports, insisting that there is no truth to the rumoured defection.
