2027: Igbos Must Not Repeat 2023 Mistake — Enweremadu Endorses Tinubu

Christopher Ogbonnaya Enweremadu, the Crown Prince of Ngwaland, former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, ex-Commissioner for Works and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and former chairman of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, formerly Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, has urged the Igbo electorate to avoid repeating the mistakes of the 2023 elections.

In an exclusive interview, Enweremadu said the region’s support for Peter Obi in 2023 was misguided and warned that repeating such a choice in 2027 would undermine the Igbo’s political relevance. He advised voters to back President Bola Tinubu, whom he believes is poised to win the presidency next year.

Enweremadu also highlighted the ongoing economic challenges in the country, noting that the federal government has been injecting funds into local governments and states to mitigate the hardship.

Excerpts from the interview:

On the purpose of his recent meeting:
“I convened the meeting with political leaders in my Local Government to educate the people on the political landscape ahead of 2027. Our goal is to ensure Isiala Ngwa North plays its rightful role in supporting the President and securing key positions, including the Senate seat due to our Local Government. While I am interested in contesting for the Senate, my primary focus is the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term.”

On supporting Tinubu over Peter Obi:
“As a political actor, I weigh the pros and cons before guiding my people. Peter Obi, in my view, is unlikely to win in 2027. It would be unwise to direct our people to vote for someone who may lose, especially when Abia has benefited from the current administration’s magnanimity. Supporting Tinubu ensures that our people continue to receive governance dividends.”

On why he believes Peter Obi will lose:
“Looking at the numbers, the situation is clear. President Tinubu is the APC flag bearer, while Peter Obi does not have a confirmed party ticket. Over 30 state governors have declared support for Tinubu. Politics is numbers, not rhetoric. Without the numbers, the realization of an Igbo presidency will not be possible.”

Enweremadu concluded that strategic voting and unity among the Igbo are essential to safeguarding the region’s political influence and ensuring that the people benefit from governance after the 2027 elections.
